The Napa Valley Symphony is celebrating its 79th season from September 2011 - May 2012, bringing programming that is both traditional and innovative, and featuring guest conductors and soloists that are some of the finest in the contemporary world of music.
Remaining concerts of our 2011-2012 season will be the beautiful Napa Valley Opera House in downtown Napa on Sunday afternoons at 3 p.m. An hour prior to each concert (2 p.m.), audience members are invited to attend Concert Conversations, a free pre-concert talk with guest artists hosted by Executive Director Richard Aldag.
In addition to the standard concert symphonic fare, the Napa Valley Symphony is proud to introduce a new project – “Made in Napa ” – for the 2011-2012 season. “Made in Napa ” provides the opportunity for the audience to hear new music for orchestra written by composers who live and work in our community. Over the course of the season, the audience will hear three vastly different compositions that have been programmed alongside familiar works from the orchestral repertoire: Twilight at Mt. Veeder by Robert Wright; Les Bijoux for Violin & Orchestra by Richard Aldag; Sol by Jason Nett.
One hour prior to each concert featuring these works, the composers will participate in the Concert Conversation talks on stage, speaking about their music and providing insight into their artistic intent. In addition to the pre-concert talks, the Napa Valley Symphony will present a series of events that will bring our “Made in Napa ” composers in contact with the public for lecture-demonstrations that enhance awareness of contemporary orchestral music as an ongoing art form.
